I notice there has not been a rating for a couple of years, and things have not changed much. This was right in from of our hotel (The Hampton Inn) made this easy for my wife and I to walk to after our trip to Three Floyds. It was Friday night and the place was nearly empty, not a good sign. We sat at the bar as we had already eaten. Being from California where smoking is prohibited in bars I am always disconcerted to have two ladies chain smoking at a table a ten feet away. The place reeked of smoke. The woman tending the bar was on the phone with her back turned to us, and continued to talk for five minutes before reluctantly putting down the phone and asking us what we wanted. My wife asked for Cointreau, but she said they were out of it. She finally settled for a glass of Grand Marnier. I asked what beers were on tap and she showed me the list in the menu. There appeared to be at least a dozen or more tap handles so I was sure I was going to find something good here. I perused the list and asked for the one from Upland Brewery. Sorry she says, we don’t carry that any more. So I asked for a Three Floyds Robert the Bruce. We are out of that she replies. I note a Bells Oberon tap handle next to where I am sitting so I ask for that. Sorry we are out of that too. So my next question is “what do you have?” She admitted the beer list was badly out of date and she really did not know what was there. At this point I got up and walked around the bar and studied the tap handles myself. I finally settled on a Goose Island Honker ($3.50 for the glass) and a Goose Island Matilda ($6.50). They were both excellent. This place needs to update its beer list and what kind of a bar runs out of such a basic drink as Cointreau? Also it is great to have lots of tap handles (which they did), but they don’t mean much unless there is a beer keg attached to it. This could be a great place, but they came up short this summer night.

Totally horrible experience last night. The first two beers I asked for they were not carrying anymore. So I ended up with a Bell's Oberon, which tasted like it came out of the world's dirtiest tap lines into an unclean glass. I asked for a replacement beer since it was awful, and was totally talked down to and patronized. I received my burger with a charred piece of paper in it, which I returned. The general manager of the establishment was also very demeaning and patronizing. She said she would comp my beer and that I wouldn't be charged for the burger. The first bill I received had 2 burgers on it. After complaining again, I received a corrected bill, on which I was charged for both my "comped" beer and my burger, but had a $10 credit. The cost of the burger and beer was $12. If you're in the area looking for a good experience, I'd recommend skipping this place. Just head up the street to Three Floyd's.

Yah, kinda disappointing. Food was very average, service was just ok. They have a good selection of beer, that is, when they are not out of it. They had some really cool selections that you can't really get anywhere else around here, like Bloomington and Upland. But those choices were in bottles only. The tap selection was very limited.

I was excited about visiting Charlies Ale House...I had been to one in Chicago a couple of times and it was great. I was very disappointed with the one in Munster. The food was good, but the service was soooo terrible that it just ruined the entire experience for me and the three other people that joined me. If you like things done quickly...I wouldn't advise going to this location.
